What is a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) and how is it different from a Nutritionist?

As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), I've completed rigorous academic coursework, extensive supervised practice hours, and passed a national examination. I also maintain ongoing continuing education to ensure I'm always providing you with the most current, evidence-based, and safe nutrition care. The term "nutritionist" is much broader and isn't regulated in the same way, meaning individuals using that title may have varying levels of education and experience without specific credentialing requirements.

What is your philosophy on nutrition/health?

My philosophy is centered around the belief that nutrition should be empowering, not overwhelming. I approach my work with compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for your unique lived experiences. My goal is to create a supportive and inclusive space where you feel comfortable exploring your relationship with food and health. I'm dedicated to providing personalized, nonjudgmental guidance, ensuring you feel understood and supported without any pressure or shame.

What are your specialties or areas of focus?

While I offer comprehensive support across a wide range of health and wellness goals, my true passion and primary focus lie in supporting individuals through Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders. I am deeply committed to guiding you toward a peaceful and sustainable relationship with food.

Beyond this, I have a specialized focus on Neurodivergent Eating & Feeding challenges. I understand the unique complexities involved and am skilled at navigating sensory difficulties, limited food acceptance, and developing creative, compassionate solutions to nourish yourself in a way that truly works for you.

Whether you're in the Chicagoland area, another part of Illinois, or anywhere else in the U.S., I can provide convenient and accessible nutrition support directly to you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you'll need is truly unique to your journey, as nutrition coaching is highly individualized. To begin, we typically start with weekly sessions. This more frequent contact is incredibly beneficial, as it allows us to build strong momentum and provides the consistent support needed for you to truly feel heard and empowered. This consistent connection also enables powerful behavior change, helping you integrate new habits and insights into your daily life more effectively.

As we progress, we'll continuously reevaluate and adjust our frequency based on what works best for you, ensuring our plan continues to align with your evolving goals and needs.

Do you provide meal plans?

My approach focuses on teaching you the skills to sustainably navigate feeding yourself in the future, rather than just handing you rigid rules. I avoid prescriptive and limiting meal plans that don't truly fit into your life. However, I am happy to provide example meal plans to help you visualize what an eating pattern could look like that aligns with your goals and preferences. This allows us to work together to build practical strategies that empower you to make sustainable food choices.

What is your approach to weight management?

My approach to weight management is weight-neutral. This means I don't focus solely on the number on the scale. Instead, I help you explore intuitive eating principles and cultivate a healthier relationship with food and your body. My guidance is rooted in compassion and respect, aiming to support you in building sustainable habits for overall well-being, free from pressure or shame.

Do you accept insurance? What are your fees/pricing?

I understand that navigating insurance can be important, and I'm committed to making nutrition counseling accessible. I'm pleased to share that through Nourish, a remarkable 95% of our patients have $0 out-of-pocket cost for seeing a dietitian! This is supported by the Nourish Guarantee, which ensures a no-surprise billing experience.

Here's how it works:

  • No Charge for Denied Appointments: If an appointment claim is denied by your insurance, you won't be charged for any sessions that have already occurred – those appointments are on us.

  • Transparent Copays/Coinsurance: If you have a copay or coinsurance, you won't be charged more than your initial estimate until your actual cost is determined by your insurance. Once we know the real cost, you'll be promptly notified, and any future appointments will reflect that amount.

  • Deductible Options: If your sessions go towards your deductible, you'll be given options. You can choose not to pay for past appointments that contributed to your deductible, and we won't charge you for them. However, any future appointments would then be out-of-pocket.

What is your cancellation policy?

To ensure fairness and manage my schedule effectively, my cancellation policy allows for free cancellation up to 24 hours before your appointment. This helps ensure I can continue to provide quality care to all my clients.
